Terms of Service

The service
Tallow is a browser-based, end-to-end encrypted file transfer tool. Files are encrypted on your device and travel directly between the sender and the receiver through an untrusted relay that, in End-to-end mode, only forwards ciphertext (Transport-only mode is relay-carried by design). There are no accounts, no subscriptions and no stored uploads: nothing you transfer is written to disk on our side, and room state exists in memory only for the life of the transfer.
Acceptable use and abuse policy
Use Tallow lawfully. You may not use it to transfer material that is illegal to possess or distribute, including child sexual abuse material, material that infringes intellectual property rights you do not hold, malware, or content used to threaten, harass or defraud. You may not attempt to overwhelm, probe or degrade the relay, circumvent its rate limits, or use the service to attack third parties. Because the service is zero-knowledge, we cannot read your transfers — but we will act on abuse reports that identify a specific room or link, and we may rate-limit, block or discontinue access that abuses the service. Abuse reports go to tallowteam@proton.me and are answered in writing.
No accounts, no data held about you
There is nothing to register. We do not collect analytics, telemetry or tracking data, and we hold no profile tied to you. The relay's operational logs are structured and address-free (timestamp, method, path, status, latency, bytes) — the full inventory of what exists, and for how long, is published on the transparency page.
Software licence
The Tallow client and relay are free software licensed under the AGPL-3.0. You may run, study, modify and redistribute them under that licence. The licence governs the software; these terms govern the hosted service at sendtallow.com.
No warranty
The service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you send, and for verifying the running client against the published build hashes if that matters to your threat model.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost or corrupted data, arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes
We may update these terms; the "last updated" date above changes when we do, and material changes are noted on the transparency page. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
